ESPN pundit Steve Nicol has claimed that Liverpool are likely to seal a double deal for Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk, which could cost more than £100m.
The Merseyside outfit have recruited just two new signings so far this summer; Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Roma’s Mohamed Salah.
After securing a Champions League spot last season, Jurgen Klopp’s men will aim to take a step further, but they will need reinforcements to do so.
Van Dijk seemed set on heading to Anfield at the start of the transfer window, but Liverpool were forced to withdraw their interest and issue a public apology to Southampton after being accused of tapping up.
Despite that, it seems as though the deal is not dead, but the Saints are demanding at least £50m, according to The Express.
As for Keita, the RB Leipzig midfielder is proving difficult to get over the line after the Bundesliga club rejected a £57m bid, reports Bild.
Nicol has claimed that it would not be a surprise if Liverpool bought both players before the end of the transfer window.
He told ESPN:
“I’m going to say there there’s a good possibility that both might happen. I think Keita is more expensive, just maybe. I think he gives you more.
“Box to box, he can score goals, he’s somebody who you can maybe put the team on his back in a couple of years when he’s a little bit more experienced. He’s still only 22.”
