Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has warned his former club that they must beat Leicester City this weekend if they want to win the Premier League title, according to reports from the Sport Review.
The Gunners grabbed their first victory following three consecutive draws in a 2-0 win over Bournemouth last week to reignite their title challenge, but they host high-flying Leicester in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday.
With the Foxes five points ahead of Arsene Wenger’s men, a win for Claudio Ranieri’s side will put them eight points in front of Arsenal.
And Gilberto has urged the Gunners to do well in the big games, stressing the importance of beating Leicester to have any hope of becoming champions come May.
He told 888sport: “I think Arsenal can win the league but that depends how well they do in the crucial games.
“Leicester is one of them and from now on every point Arsenal drop will make Leicester believe more.
“Arsenal have not won the league in a long time but I believe they have a great chance this season.
“It’s important for Arsenal to have a very defensive mind considering what Leicester can do.
“They must mark well throughout the whole field from the guys up front to the midfield protecting the back four.
“They must close the space because we all know what a great job [Jamie] Vardy has done this season. That starts from the front and it is important to mark well as a team.”
The Brazilian was part of the legendary Invincibles Arsenal side that went the entire 2003-2004 campaign unbeaten, which was the last time that the Gunners won the English top flight.
Meanwhile, this time last year Leicester were at the bottom of the Premier League, but climbed up the table to survive relegation by six points.
