According to The Sun, Borussia Monchengladbach have made a £10m offer for Reece Oxford as they look to sign the West Ham United teenager on a permanent deal.
What’s the story?
Oxford joined Bundesliga side Gladbach on loan during last summer’s transfer window, and made three league appearances for the German club before returning to West Ham in the final stages of 2017.
Hammers boss David Moyes has insisted that Oxford will be given the chance to break into the first-team picture at the London Stadium in the coming weeks.
However, according to The Sun, Gladbach are desperate to acquire the 19-year-old’s services on a permanent basis after watching him develop in recent months.
The report claims that the German side have launched a bid of £10m as they look to secure a permanent deal in the early stages of the January transfer window.
How will this story end?
Oxford’s current situation at West Ham is a curious one.
The teenager burst onto the scene in 2015 after impressing away to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season, and signed a five-year contract on his 17th birthday, with Manchester United said to be keen on the midfielder at the time.
Now 19, there is every reason to believe that Oxford will continue to develop as a footballer, and it was a surprise when he joined Gladbach on loan during the summer.
Now back at the London Stadium, the majority of West Ham supporters want Oxford, who is valued at £4.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, to be given a run in the team at centre-back.
After fighting so hard to prevent the exciting talent from leaving in the first place, it would be a shock if West Ham now allowed Oxford to move to the Bundesliga for a relatively small transfer fee.
