Seattle Sounders' rising young player Obed Vargas is reportedly earning interest from the Netherlands, with multiple clubs said to be interested in signing the 19-year-old midfielder. Offers are expected to come in this summer as several clubs continue to keep tabs on the Mexico international.
Vargas, who has also drawn interest from clubs in Liga MX, made the one-time switch to represent Mexico in 2024, making his first appearance as a late sub in 's win over the U.S. men's national team in October. On the club level, the Alaska-born teenager has already made 89 appearances for the Sounders.
The interest in Vargas was first reported by GiveMeSport.

Interest in Vargas won't come as a surprise, particularly to Seattle Sounders boss Brian Schmetzer, who spoke to GOAL last month at MLS Media Day about that potential interest. The Sounders are set to play in the Club World Cup this summer, which will put players like Vargas in the shop window for clubs all over the world. Schmetzer believes that Vargas is the type of player who can take advantage of that chance and perhaps earn a move abroad.
"Young Obed Vargas, let's just say he has a good game against Atletico Madrid," Schmetzer said. "Let's just see, and does that make his market value go higher?"
The Sounders will face Botafogo, Atletico Madrid, and PSG at home in that competition, with the group stage running from June 15-23.

Vargas' big break came early in 2022, when he starred in the Sounders' historic run through the CONCACAF Champions Cup. At the time of his debut, which came at 15 years and 351 days old, he was the third-youngest player in MLS history.
